Stingless bee honey/ Cheruthen is considered twice as nutritious and medicinal as ordinary honey. It is because stingless bees collect nectar and pollen from small wild growing plants and trees compared to bigger bees that circulate in the large flowers of big trees. The stingless bees (Trigona iridipennis) usually nest in the crevices of walls and tree trunks. They are a difficult species to domesticate, and the honey production by a stingless bee colony is about 350 grams to 1kg of honey in a year, making it costlier. This honey is collected from the pristine forests of Western Ghats. Stingless bee honey reduces obesity if used daily with warm water. When simply used with a glass of drinking water, it can cure lack of sleep/anxiety. It has high antimicrobial properties and can be used to treat wounds. It also cures cough, stomach ulcers, and eye infections.
